Window Dressing

The act of attempting to make performance reports look better by fund managers at year end or at the end of each quarter before performance reports are sent out. Methods employed include selling stocks that have shown large unrealized losses thereby clearing them from the portfolio.

Though window dressing may put poor performance in a slightly better light, it is unviable in the long run. Investors should be careful in order not to be hoodwinked.
