Treasury Inflation Protected Securities – TIPS
Treasury inflation protected securities are a special type of Treasury note or bond that offers investors interest indexed with inflation. The interest is indexed to the Consumer Price Index which pretty much guarantees that the bond will yield a real return over zero in the situation of hyperinflation. However, due to this protection from inflation,TIPS have lower yields than regular treasuries of the same maturity.
