Open Market Operations
Open market operations are what central banks do to increase or decrease the money supply on the market. They usually buy government securities such as T-notes to increase money supply, and sell government securities to decrease money supply. By doing so, they can manipulate short term interest rates to a level near their target rate, the Federal Funds rate.
