Modern portfolio theory is a theory proposed by academics which attempts to create an optimal portfolio via various mathematical means. Though it has some useful insights such as diversification and the relationship between risk and return, it does not provide much guidance to traders.
Some investors like Warren Buffett dislike many concepts in modern portfolio theory.
