Market Cannibalization
Market cannibalization occurs when a company’s new product negatively impacts the sales of its old product. For example, stores were believed to be cannibalizing each other if located near each other. However, Starbucks did the counterintuitive thing of placing its stores next to each other to expand its business faster.
