Market Basket
Market basket is an imaginary set of securities or goods and services, designed to attempt to reflect a certain financial market or economic situation.
Stock indices are an example of a market basket of securities that attempt to reflect the stock market’s performance as a whole, giving investors a benchmark to compare their performance.
The Consumer Price Index is also derived from a market basket of goods which attempt to reflect general changes in the price level.
