Macro-Hedge
A hedge that will reduce or eliminate risk of all the components of a portfolio. Since there usually isn’t a one-size-fits-all hedge for a portfolio of varying issues (unless it’s an index fund, where the fund manager can establish a macro-hedge by shorting index futures) each of the positions in the portfolio will have to be hedged.
