Fiscal Year
Any 12-month period that a company uses for calculating annual (”yearly”) financial statements in businesses and other organizations. The fiscal year may or may not be the same as the calendar year.
Buffett quips that “Why should business returns coincide with the amount of time it takes for the earth to go around the sun once?” He means to emphasize long term results and pay less attention to short term events.
