Earnings Season
Since 10-Qs are filed within 35 days after the fiscal quarter of a company ends and 10-Ks are filed within 60 days after a fiscal year of a company ends to the SEC, most companies report earnings near the same period of time every quarter and every year. This is known as the earnings season.
Trading during the earnings season may be rough as the market may move around sharply after each earnings announcement. Some traders tend to decrease positions during earnings season to prevent earnings surprises on the downside from having a large negative impact on their portfolio.
