Dividend Drag
Passively-managed ETFs are mandated by the SEC to pay out dividends received from their investments, resulting in inability of the ETFs to reinvest their dividends and benefiting from future gains. If the stock market is in a bear market, an investor may benefit as the dividends are not re-invested in stocks that are falling.
