Discount to Net Asset Value
When a closed-end fund’s stock price is trading below net asset value, it is referred to as trading at a discount to net asset value. This may happen when investors believe the fund’s net asset value will decline in the future. In extreme cases in emerging markets, this may occur when investors believe fund managers are not truthful about their fund’s net asset value, but this is less likely in developed countries.
