Conglomerate Discount
Conglomerate discount refers to the phenomenon of stock markets undervaluing a conglomerate. This is the opposite of the “one plus one is greater than two” scenario. When a conglomerate discount occurs, the market value of the conglomerate is less than the sum of the parts of a conglomerate. This may lead to the conglomerate spinning off its subsidiaries in order to enhance shareholder value.
