Closing Price
The price at which the last trade of a security before market close is traded at. Due to after hours trading, the price of the security continues changing after market close. However, the close price is generally regarded as the final trading price of the security on that day. It is important to note that the closing price may not be the security’s opening price the following trading day.
The closing price is an important component of charts for traders who use technical analysis. Many calculations, such as a moving average, use the closing price.
