Capitalization-weighted Index
A type of market index in which the components are weighted by their market capitalization. This gives companies with a larger market capitalization a heavier weighting in the index. The index’s values would be calculated by summing up the entire market capitalization of each stock.
Most major market indices are capitalization-weighted, including the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, CAC 40 etc.
