Called Away
When an obligation of delivery of a security causes a termination of contract, it is said to be “called away”. This can occur when a call option is exercised causing delivery of stock, or when a callable bond is redeemed before maturity, or when a short position on a stock requires delivery. This may prevent the investor from taking in part any upside that may have been obtained from the investment.
