Call Loan
A loan provided to a brokerage firm that is used to finance margin accounts and use securities held in the margin accounts as collateral. The rate charged on call loans is known as the call loan rate.
These are typically short term funds and can be withdrawn at any time. Before the great crash in 1929, the call loan market was very active with many non-financial firms putting their short term funds in it.
