Breakout Trader

Breakout traders buy stocks on breakouts(or less commonly, short stocks that breakdown) believing that breakouts/breakdowns signal new trends for a stock and offer good trading opportunities. Some systems like CANSLIM combine breakout trading along with other indicators to attempt to make it more effective.

There are also other types of breakouts like volatility breakouts, which may be interesting areas of exploration for traders.
