Blowoff
A term used by technical analysts to describe a sharp, rapid gain in the price of a stock(or security) that has experienced a long period of appreciation which usually signals a peak.
However, a blowoff may be followed by a period of consolidation/basing and further gains. It is unadvisable to trade on this signal alone. As John Maynard Keynes would say, “Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.”
