Big Bath
When a company purposefully makes the income statement look poorly, usually via writeoffs of assets etc. It is done in order to increase future earnings artificially. Sometimes a company takes a big bath after consecutive years of aggressive accounting so it can “start afresh” after the big bath. A company may also take a big bath with a new CEO who wishes to blame ills on the former CEO.
