Average annual yield is a figure that is derived from adding up all the interest/dividends from an investment and dividing it by the average amount invested.

For example, if a $10,000 deposit yields $1200 after 4 years, then that translates into an average annual yield of 3%.

Average annual yield of investments can be compared to see whether the return on investment is satisfactory.
