Newbie Question

Can I ask a really stupid question?

Does a stock have a bid and ask like an option does?

I mean, if I wanted to buy actual stock, or even sell, in say Microsoft or something, (maybe one share for this example) and it was $100 per share for current market value, would that have a bid and ask spread? Like a spread of say $99.75 by $100.25? I'm just pulling numbers out of the clouds, I have no clue what the real numbers are. I'm just trying to find out if a stock has a bid and ask like a stock's option does.

Thanks! Tiffany... pejihophop@hotmail.com

Hi Tiffany welcome to the FIO I have already posted an answer to your question on investopedia. The answer to that question was long winded and has links to other sites to illustrate my points. Here I will just say that yes stocks have a bid ask similar to an options contract being sold or bought.

Thanks, Joe, for taking the time to answer my question. I thought that this was the case but someone else told me otherwise and I thought I would go crazy during the ensuing "discussion". Could you tell me, please, where I woud find that posting of your's on investopedia? Thanks again for all your help! ...Tiffany
