symbol and letters that follow

I,m wondering what the letters and what appears to be dates that follow a stock symbol mean? Example a stock may trade as FIGI, FIGIU, or FIGIW, and each has a different price.

Good question! Those are options symbols. You can learn more about options here on the site by checking out our options education page,

http://www.stocktradingtogo.com/options-trading

And an example of an option can be seen on Yahoo Finance, consider Apple's quote for example, AAPL: Options for Apple Inc. - Yahoo! Finance.

Hope that helps!

When in print a number or letter is preceded or followed by a symbol or abbreviation for coinage, weight, measure, or other special sign, in braille follow the print order, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and spacing for the abbreviation or the corresponding braille symbol.
