Old stock help please
Hello,
I have an old stock certificate from 1981 in Oil and Gas. Through assistance from the SEC and my own research, I have found that through 7 mergers or aquisitions, this stock has made it through to a company currently trading.
I have found that I am not on record, but I do have the certificate. Will I still be entitiled to current stock value with the current company? I have not found myself on any umclained funds sites...fyi.
I have spoken with the current company, they are the one's who told me I am not on record. What do I do next?

One of your options is to contact a broker. Let them know you have a certificate. They may be willing to change it for you. If I'm not mistaken, a full service bank branch should be able to take care of this for you as well.

Thanks so much....I've been told that because I am not on record, that I may have no value because stock could have been redeemed in a merger....but, could it be that it still has value? With the mergers and aqc. that i have tracked, it could be pretty nice.
I have contacted a broker but I'm trying to decide if I should be excited or not....haha....we could all use a little hope.

I would say be excited, the stock should have transferred just fine. Hope you get your hands on it!

Hi again new friends of the stock world....of which I have little clue.....but I did get a letter back from the Transfer Agent of the current trading company. They informed me i was not on their records....well I knew that ofcourse. And they said the following:
That in 1983 there was a merger (one I knew of) and it was at that time my shares should have been exchanged.
They said one of 2 things occured:
1.the shares would have been reported missing and would have been replaced, which would render the original stock invalid or
2.would have been escheated to the gov as abandoned property....
So is this the final word....I'm a little confused on #1. Am I out of luck or could it still be that my stock could be of value?
Even though I am not on the current company's records, could I still find my stock of value with them?
Thanks for thoughts......

you know...i've heard of stuff like this, and once there's a merger you have to constantly keep making sure you're on the company's records to make your stock of worth, i'm no one reputable to confirm this, but in my dealings with similar situations, unless the company agrees that what you have can be compensated for, it's kind of a lost cause. =\

not a problem. i know you're new to the market. but if you're interested in seeing how'd you fare. you should probably check out MyWallSt.net. this way you can see how'd you do and even get the chance to win some extra cash. they have this thing called the rookie challege where you basically get play money and if you make the most at the end of the week you win $1,000. it's pretty cool. i have yet to win, but two of my friends have, i should probably just let them do my investing haha.
but definitely check it out seeing as you're new to it all.
