Percent (%) Question

Hello All,
First let me say I love your site. Stock Trading To Go.
Would you please tell me how they figure the percent (%) when they say this.

Apple for an example.

AAPL
Closed at : $130.01
Down : $5.59
Which is 1.30%

How do they figure the percent. No matter how I do it it doesn't come out the same as they get.

Thanks in Advance.

By the way. I'm up $431.04 and I'm a New Investor. Boy do I love this. You've been a big help. So Thanks Again. Terry

I emailed you this answer Terry but might as well put it up here as well for other readers to view:

Terry,

Congrats on your early success!

To answer your question, here is the equation to find the % gained or lost,

(Opening Price - Current Price) / Opening Price

So in your example they either reported wrong or the numbers were in accurate because you are right, $5.59 is not 1.3% of $135.60!

If Apple opened at $135.60, and was down $5.59 on the day, here is the equation,

($135.60 - $130.01) / $135.60

Thus, you would get a % down of 4.1%.

Hope that helps!
