ETF

Another abbreviation I saw while trying to read and learn. They say it is a different kind of way to put your money into an investment and have it grow. I think with less risk? Help?

As Matt Moss said, it's a fund, so its more diversified, and has less risk. Still, know what you are doing before buying an ETF, and don't die like me with XLE.

Hey MSheldar, I trade ETF's. And yes, you are correct, ETF's are just another place to through your money in as an investment. Like Yee Sian said, they are a more diversified investment meaning less risk, but also less reward (profits). The advantage of an ETF is this. You can think of it as a small Mutual Fund. You can trade them with ANY broker. With a mutual fund though, you can only buy/sell them through a larger brokerage house that usually charges more for commisions.

In conclusion, you get the less risk with an ETF, can trade them daily, and get live updates, and they are an investment between trading stocks and long-term mutual funds. You may want to hold these ETF's for at least a couple of months. I have more of a description in my Blog if you want to check it out. http://stocklingo.blogspot.com/2005/...f-trading.html I explain ETF's in the paragraph second from the bottom.

Hope this helps

With mutual funds and ETFs, you can both put in money to create shares of the fund. This is the other option as opposed to buying and selling of ETFs on the open market.

I have a half a dozen etfs set up for long haul ,then a cpl just to play around with, along with some speculative individual stocks. As far as mutual funds go ,i seen the founder of Vanguard on TV cpl weeks back ,he stated mutual funds are more of a back water fund these days, and that etfs will be even more creative in years to come ,i think they have only been around sence 93.only time will tell ,but it is a good way to get the whole basket at once.

What I like about ETFs

Hi,

One great thing about ETFs are that they are generally more concentrated into certain sectors. Yes they have large cap ETFs, small cap ETFs, and Mid cap ETFs, but you can also buy sector ETFs like Banking, or Country ETFs. They are also coming out with over 200 new ETFs in the near future. A couple that I'm in right now are Gold (GLD) and Silver (SLV) as I think these precious metals are headed higher. Another one I wish I had bought is United States Oil Fund LP (USO). That fund it tied to the price of oil. On my blog I tell which stocks or ETFs I'm buying or selling and usually post a chart that hopfully makes it clear why I'm buying it. By blog is at: http://fundomax.blogspot.com/
