Hello all

Where to start?? I've been reading as much as I can here in the forum and must say I feel I came to the right place. I recently opened an acct at one of the online brokerages and have only dabbled in mutual funds as I am very weary about getting involved in buying individual stocks. It seems to me the way to go is to find a few stocks I like and invest evenly in those. One of my many questions is if Id buy into BEAS and they get purchased and it goes up would it be dumb of me to unload it right away? I guess what Im trying to figure out is if it is normal practice to purchase a stock on a Monday and get rid of it on a Tuesday? I do like a few stocks for the long haul ie. MOT,LXK,MRK,CXO and am considering SIR. Thanks in advance and look forward to learning from you guys

Welcome to the forums!

Hope you are finding the information here helpful.

As far as any company acquisitions, it's a little difficult for us to answer that one. Because everyone's tolerance for risk is very different. Whereas one person wouldn't mind a 10% drop in stock price, another person would flip if their stock dropped half of 1%. I'm a very long term investor, so swings don't bother me. Unless I'm short-term swing trading. Then I want in and out quick.

So it all depends on what your tolerance for risk is. What you're looking to get out of this stock. Is it a trade, or an investment? Speculative buy (a trade) or do you believe in the company for the next 5 years? (investment)
