I need some numbers!

Hey guys, I need a little help.

I'm looking for a site were I can pull up financial data about public companies side by side. Optimally, I'd like to be able to download it in excel format (.xls or .csv) but just a page with it would do.

Does anyone know where I can find such a tool for free?

Off the top of my head you could use something like yahoo finance, but I don't think you can download their numbers into a CSV file and what not. You could just compile the numbers and through them into the excel sheet manually though and go that route?

Are you willing to pay money to do it, because I am sure if you dish out some cash you can find some service that offers such a ability.

That's what I'm trying to get around, I'm going to have to do this for about 200+ companies. It would be much easier to have them in an excel file lol.

I know the Reuters screener can download into excel. Thing is it might not be free anymore. Try signing up for powerscreener lite, if you have trouble let me know and I'll hook you up.

I use Stockhouse.com for quick financial data.. offers key ratios and other financial tidbits.. but may be dated (a few months?), not sure if its 100% all the time (but has been for me thus far).

Compare some of your check ups with companies web pages to see if numbers jive.

My only advice is to open a few windows and compare but that would be onerous at best. Should be atleast printable.

Hi

While I liked Stockhouse.com, I really like www.smartmoney.com; it has side-by-side comparisons. You can compare up to five companies at a time. I think you put in the name of a stock and it gives you the data on four of its competitors.

Smartmoney.com looks interesting aquaswim47.. It may help me when comparing stocks since i usally do about 5 per sector except some are Canadian listed only which Smartmoney doesn't seem to recognize these symbols... Know any good sites that do both US & CDN?

Hi

Each uses its own convention. Smartmoney uses a period. You would use Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) or RDS.B with SmartMoney.

With Scottrade, I use a / key.

Others use a dash (-) key that separates RDS-A or RDS/A, for example. I think Yahoo Finance uses a - key.

I apologize that the only sites I've been able to find as of now is Yahoo Finance, Investopedia, or Google Finance. You also have to look up the stock by name, rather than by symbol. I guess your stockhouse.com is the best for Canadian stocks, unfortunately.
