treasury stock = company buyback

1.Microsoft did a $40 BB stock buyback in 2005, or 2006. $20 BB was to be bought by Microsoft in 2005, or 2006. The remaining $20 BB was to be bought over a 5 year period.

Where can I see EXACTLY how much treasury stock Microsoft has bought? Has Microsoft bought $31 BB out of a possible $40 BB? Is it $35 BB out of a possible $40 BB?

2.Google Net Income (NI) over the years, starting in 2003, has gradually increased from $300 MM, $600 MM, $700 MM, $1 BB, etc. each quarter. (The quarterly NI figures I have given NOT SPECIFIC = JUST SOME NUMBERS THAT I VAGUELY REMEMBER.) From 2003 to 2007 the total amount of NI that Google has earn is less than $8 BB or $9 BB. Yet under cash and short term equivalents Google has over $10 BB.

I think the reason is treasury stock. Where can I find out exactly how much treasury stock Google (and Microsoft) own?

(Treasury stock is equal to ZERO, under the balance sheets of the two companies, if you look in Google Finance or Yahoo Finance.)

Yahoo and Google usually have messed up numbers compared to the actual numbers on file at the SEC. Just looking at Treasury Stock won't tell you how much they buy because that's where stock in the form of a bonus for employees comes from as well, so you won't be able to see what they bought from that.

Look in the annual report, the 10-K, to see if they have a paragraph about it. That's about all you can do.

Nope you're right. You use assets (cash) to buy the stock, and then it goes into the stock holders equity.
