hmmm... very interesting... (rubbing chin)

If I paid this as salary instead of dividends, it wouldn't be double taxed, right? (If I understood what I read.) I know the company would have to pay payroll tax on it, and the employee (ME) would have to pay income tax on it. But the corporation wouldn't have to pay income tax on it. Is that about right? It isn't profit if it had to pay it to someone else, is it?

I am not sure on that Cassandra. I think that you are right on that one, but I am not positive. I do know, like you said, that the corporation would have to pay payroll tax on it, but I don't think it would be considered profit.

I guess if you are looking at this as away to avoid paying a dividend, it would probably upset the preferred share holders since you would be avoiding paying them anything. I bet that they would probably make you agree to something that says you won't make all of your money though payroll.
