Sell Stocks

A former employer had awarded me 10 shares of company stock about 12 yrs ago. What is the easiest way for me to sell these shares. I don't have a broker account and don't really wanto to set one up right now, just sell the stock. Thanks jdcates

Unfortunately you cannot sell the stock without a stock broker. Where are the shares being held currently?

The easiest way to go would probably be to open an account with a discount online broker, have them add transfer your shares to your account, then sell them that way. You can find a full stock broker comparison chart here on our site, http://www.stocktradingtogo.com/stockbrokers.html. Going with a broker that has local branches might be the best route so you can talk to someone live. Scottrade in that sense (see the page for details) might be a good fit.

In this first part, we’ll examine some personal reasons for selling a stock. The second part of the series will focus on more market-driven reasons for selling. However, there will be some overlap between the two.Familiarize yourself with different types of stocks. Growth stocks are stocks in relatively inexpensive companies that have a good chance to increase in value. Income stocks have less growth potential but consistently produce high dividends. Other types include value stocks, which are a variant of growth stocks; cyclical stocks, which are tied to economic ups and downs; and international stocks, which are stocks in foreign companies that may or may not be traded on U.S. exchanges.
