"Amex sets plan to move to for-profit public company
BOSTON (AFX) -- The American Stock Exchange said Thursday its board of governors has approved a plan that would start the process to convert the exchange to a for-profit corporation. The Amex said the move is the first step towards "demutualization" to position the Amex for future investment opportunities. Seat owners at the exchange will have the chance to vote on the plan, which would convert their seats into public shares, the Amex said.
