Holding V into earnings?
Got in at $71.95. I think I may sell 2/3 position and hold the rest into earnings. Thoughts?

Just posted on Visa (V) today on the blog,
"After hours Visa (V) shares are trading down after a strong earnings report but disappointing overall for investors. The stock has ran up some 8% in the last three day heading into the call."
After hours the stock closed at $61, down over 6%. The earnings were stellar but a sell off was expected after the pre-release run up. Holding is your call, long term you gotta look at what happened to Mastercard, the stock has had a huge run!

What is the current P/E? When it's above 20, I sell if I make a profit (or hold and don't buy if I don't).
TBS, Visa is a great company, as famous as Google and like the latter it may stay high priced because of that.
Good Luck. HTH.

Took my swing trade position off before earnings, but kept my IRA position. Looks like I was wrong about the swing trade! Hindsight is 20/20...

May, June, july and august are bad months generally in the market, and since 3 out of 4 stocks follow the Dow jones , We are in a bear market ! it`s time to get out and not hold during Earnings, short RTP if it breaks the bottom channel with puts u can see the chart on my Trades page The Stock Teacher, Stocks ready for big moves !

Personally, I like MA better (as I own it). I think V has been priced too high and is still selling at an IPO premium.

True but MA started the same way as Visa and eventually took off. Visa has completely broken down technically but as soon as the market turns I think Visa will be a high flier.

Holding into Earnings is always a gamble, it`s better to play Earnings with options, i like to buy 3 calls and then 1 put for insurance or if im bearish i will buy 3 puts and 1 call for insurance , the one can help if you are wrong and i only play earnings with the big monster stocks like goog, MA, Fslr,Isrg, AAPl,CME, RTp etc... when yo are right you will win big, and thats worth the gamble !
