(MSFT) Would it be a good investment to purchase Microsoft stock?
From what I've researched, I'm leaning towards that it would probably not be a good idea, but I would like to hear some other people's opinions.

Well it depends if you are looking at the short haul or the long haul, and also depends on your market outlook.
Being a big tech stock, if the overall market is performing well, more then likely Microsoft will be too.
From a technical perspective Microsoft is a buy next when it breaks past $29.60, and is a long term sell if it falls below $27.80.
Hope that helps some!

Maybe not a bad investment, but is it the best one? That's the question. Copmpare with other stocks. Stocks from less famous companies are often more interresting.

I agree with Fredledingue. Microsoft is slightly undervalued but not that undervalued. You can find some other companies with better risk/reward ratio. At the current moment, Yahoo!'s acquisition is distracting everyone at Microsoft. I think once they succeeded in acquiring Yahoo!, integration will be a headache. Two different cultures. You would expect many Yahooligans will leave the company if they are not doing so already. The one remains are those that can't get a decent job by the time the integration is coming.
Thus, if MSFT does not acquire YHOO, they are not growing. If MSFT does acquire YHOO, integration will be a pain and it will give competitors a window to capture market share. Expensive acquisition will never be beneficial for shareholders.
That is just my humble opinion.

From what I read from the chart there is a risk of head and sholder patern, that means the stock could fall to $24 before it start growing up again.
If it doesn't fall, I don't expect it to grow much higher than $32 in the foreseable future. Too low reward IMO.
MSFT impressed me with their results as I didn't expect Vista to do so well. Vista is from a computer geek point of view a bit of a disapointment.
I don't think this company has the creativity or make aproper use of creative poeple anymore as product developement is concerned. But that's my personal opinion and it doesn't necessarly translate into stock price move.
But it's clear that they are at loss with offering new products poeple would like.
As Novice said, Yahoo aquisition will be bad if they do, bad if they don't. But I don't think that's what they need to do or if it's even feasable.
M$ is a company supposed to develop operating systems. If now they feel that their only way to expand and to invest is to buy a website even if it's Y!, I don't know...
It means that their core business is not what it used to be despite the good results in recent quarters.

do you get stocks of big brands like Microsoft all that easily, especially if you are not a big buyer?

Hi, akshaytalwar:
As long as you are willing to pay the ongoing market price, you can get MSFT stocks easily.
