Record date question

When a manufacturer states it's giving a dividend, and the record date to be determined, has this date been chosen but not released or can it be changed, or made whatever???

Second follow up: If you had stocks on the record date but sold them, do you still get the dividend as being owner on said record date???

I'm not sure about your first question.

2nd question; if you sold the day after the ex-div date - You will get the dividend.
However - If a $20 stock pays a $0.50c dividend, expect the stock price to drop 50c the day after the ex-div date. Perhaps you should wait untill it recovers 5-8% from this drop so you do make some $$$ back!
