Has anyone ever...

Traded stocks on foreign exchanges?

I'm starting to look into this increasingly more as I see such potential value in emerging and developing economies (an example of an article I just read on Seeking Alpha was: Emerging Markets Infrastructure: Morgan Stanleys Head Researchers | Emerginvest Blog).

I don't necessarily mean ETF's or ADR's (although if you have personal experience trading those as well, I'd love to hear about it), but I'm more interested if anyone has had personal experience trading stocks on foreign exchanges by opening a brokerage account there.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Sorry mate, I haven't. But I'm familiar with traders who have.

I have thought about it though. There have been some Japanese companies that I'd love to own their straight stock. I've just never gotten around to transferring my money to a broker that deals in overseas markets.

I do own a few ADR's though. TSM is one. DEO. They're a wonderful way to go, if you're looking for a tad bit of diversification into large overseas companies.

Airelon,

I completely agree. I find that this is an exceedingly common phenomenon. Lost of people have heard about international markets and want to play with it a bit to try it out, but there are simply so many challenges that people typically don't get around to it.

One great site I found is attempting to do something in this area... I'm definitely interested to see what they do:

Emerging Markets & World Stock Markets: Best investments in high growth stocks

Thanks for the reply!

Please, in the future start a thread with a more explicit title.

Instead of "Has anyone ever... ", type "Trading stocks on foreign exchanges"

No problem, and I'd agree. I'd love to be able to trade, as if I had an Interactive Brokers Account, and just invest and trade in companies in many, many markets. I always liked Interactive Brokers from the standpoint of just the "Universality" of investing so many different markets. I just always disliked the fees that came with an Interactive Brokers account.

I'm checking out the link you posted right now.

Very interesting stuff ...
