Safely investing for income

Hi, besides my stock portfolio, I have some funds at the bank getting about 2% interest. How safely could I get a better return with equities, REIT's, debt instruments and bond funds? Thank you - Tom

Whow hold up, how the heck are you getting 2% interest? Is your money in short term cds or what? High yield savings accounts are definitely NOT paying this amount out at the moment.

Not quite 2%

A couple of months ago I opened an account at the Bank of Internet, and got 2% on the High Yield Savings with a $100 minimum. They have since reduced it to 1.75% APY. Good luck - Tom
