Hi WallStGolfer,

Great explanation, I have just done it and am slowly beginning to understand what I am looking at. One question though.

I am thinking that to be comparable the relative industry's betas need to adjusted in some way? (this is where I think I am missing something in my understanding)

Or do both securities need to be within the same SP500 industry sector (and hence a same industry beta?

I have taken one from the Advertising industry and the other from the Real estate industry.

The beta of a stock is usually compared to the S&P 500, but it doesnt have to by any means.

The beta is the the ammount Y will move when X moves up 1.
