Oh and the SS problem in the US can be easily solved by either a compromise between the two parties in congress leading to an eventual reform. There's a plethera of solutions out there, the only problem is getting both sides to agree with one. Assuming there will be a time where a solution is demanded, both sides will compromise and normality will continue. Congress might be stubborn, but it's not inept!

Well I said I wasn't going to talk about this anymore but it seems you have misunderstood a few things the first and least of which is that the "army" you are discussing is definately not the Canadian army that I was in we have 20k fighting men and women so we are not trained as drones and as a matter of fact that type of behavior is punished in most trades in the Canadian army. I have worked with the US army and know what you mean about the drone thing and that is why The Canadian consistantly beat the US forces in exercises with inferior equipment and supplies. We were encouraged to think to anticpate and to act on the information that was available even when that info changed constanly. The average Canadian soldier has some secondary education. The average US soldier has a hard time reading anything that does not have pictures. That is not a stab at your military it is a fact and don't think all your soldiers are mindless drones either many of them are absolutely brilliant. As for the Canada thing I think if you read my original post you will find that I mentioned Canada might last a few days (some say a month) or hours longer than the US $/ economy but in that short time it may be posible to move what capital you can into something useful to you and your family. The main reason a wrote my last post is because I fealt the need to urge some caution/restraint. I know from living around people who spend most of their lives preparing for a disaster that never comes can go a little nuts. I also know that ignoring the signs that you are talking about is a bad idea as well. I just choose to moderate my interpretation of the data being aware that there is a chance that one extreme complete colapse of the economy may be the worst case scenario and that at the other extreme the economy continues to expand at an excelerated rate with inflation being kept in check by interest rates ETC. Both extremes to me are unlikely events but possible it is far more likely to see a lesser occurance of the extremes. A depression will effect everyone the rich will get richer than the rest of us faster and the ranks of the poor will swell.
As far as being caring about your family either you are or your not the military won't give you that or take it away. If a person fealt that their Family was being threatened then they should have that discusion with their family and come up with a way to deal with the threat.
That is about all I wanted to clear up from reading your post Larry Nice thread lots of passion and content.
Joe
