I see the list is heavily weighted to financial and personal growth. I'm going to toss in my two cents on pure entertainment value, though.

Blain, I wouldn't bother adding these to the list. As I said, nothing but entertainment value.

Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein
The Green Hills of Earth by Robert Heinlein
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov
Just about anything by Keith Laumar, especially the Retief series.
Dark Star by Alan Dean Foster
The Fireside Book of Chess, edited by Fred Reinfield (lots of entertaining stories and anecdotes for chess geeks)

Adding:
My System by Aaron Nimzovich (a century old must-read for aspiring chess masters)
Logical Chess, Move by Move by Irving Chernev

I literally read the first two on my list to pieces. When my copies fell apart from repeated visits, I had to go find a couple new ones. I could add a bunch, but then my list would be even more overly weighted to sci-fi. Gotta love the escapist entertainment of spaceships and bug-eyed monsters.
