Well, I've always been into fitness. I'm not what you would call a violent person. In fact, I'm quite the opposite. But I do believe in defending myself if needed. Therefore, I undertook some Krav Maga and Escrima training; which seemed to make the most sense for my own principles. I run every other day or so, and I'm big into weight training as well.
Well, one of the biggest principles is that if you can get away from a fight, that's your first priority. Krav Maga had some excellent training in regards to environmental awareness. There's one exercise where you are brought through a building. That's the exercise. You're asked at the end of it - what are the exits? What's the quickest escape route? What could you use as a weapon that is at hand?
Regardless, I first found out about Parkour about a year or so ago. At first I thought I was just too old to get involved. The more I found out though, the more I liked what I heard. I was already running and have built up to 3k. I weight train. I was in good shape. Plus, I discovered Parkour's origins of escaping a bad situation. When I heard there were guys just a few years younger than me involved? And that it helps with critical and creative judgement skills? That's all it took. It was just a simple matter of getting my core a little stronger. Then, just basic moves.
I would consider myself as still starting out with it. Right now I'm big into rolls, vaults, and leg training (Pistol squats) You won't see me jumping from the top of a building. But I like the philosophy behind it. I figure, if Tony Hawk can still skate at his age? I can take up Parkour.
Yeah. I've got so many toys, but she's more the one for small handheld gaming. Unless I'm on a plane or something, I like the bigger systems, and she prefers the smaller ones. So I know if I bought one, she wouldn't let me near it.
