My mom recently bought a Nintendo DS lite for her and my dad to share. I have to say this is a lot more fun than I would have thought. My parents bought Brain age 2, left brain right braind and New York Time Crossword. My dad loves the cross word even though it is really tough and I love brain age. I had a 38 year old brain initially, but haven't tested that yet. It's pretty fun to fool around on and Brain Age even includes Sodoku which my mom loves to play. Anyone else have or play a DS?

My wife wants one, for just the reasons you mentioned.

I'm trying my hand (or legs?) at Parkour; as that's supposed to help with critical judgement and reasoning ability as well. Figure I'll try to get some exercise at the same time.

Parkour...That's the french free running style right? Where it's based more off of style than practicality? I always enjoyed watching the videos online of free running and parkour. The only complaint my mom has is that the stylus is a little too small for her, but she is using her palm pilot stylus as that works perfect for her. For $130 you can't really go wrong with the DS lite. And the battery life/screen are magnificent so far.

Almost. Parkour is the one that looks more to practicality, Free Running is the one that has no problem with less practical, if the movement is aesthetically beautiful to see. Free Running generally has more flips and 'tricking', whereas Parkour is just 'getting the hell away as fast as humanly possible'.

As far as the Nintendo. Yeah, I'm not allowed to buy any more games or gadgets until the wife buys one. She's still working on the old Gameboy.

Haha, darn just mixed the two up. I've always looked at getting into it. How did you start?

Just convince her to upgrade! Then buy your own games for it

Well, I've always been into fitness. I'm not what you would call a violent person. In fact, I'm quite the opposite. But I do believe in defending myself if needed. Therefore, I undertook some Krav Maga and Escrima training; which seemed to make the most sense for my own principles. I run every other day or so, and I'm big into weight training as well.

Well, one of the biggest principles is that if you can get away from a fight, that's your first priority. Krav Maga had some excellent training in regards to environmental awareness. There's one exercise where you are brought through a building. That's the exercise. You're asked at the end of it - what are the exits? What's the quickest escape route? What could you use as a weapon that is at hand?

Regardless, I first found out about Parkour about a year or so ago. At first I thought I was just too old to get involved. The more I found out though, the more I liked what I heard. I was already running and have built up to 3k. I weight train. I was in good shape. Plus, I discovered Parkour's origins of escaping a bad situation. When I heard there were guys just a few years younger than me involved? And that it helps with critical and creative judgement skills? That's all it took. It was just a simple matter of getting my core a little stronger. Then, just basic moves.

I would consider myself as still starting out with it. Right now I'm big into rolls, vaults, and leg training (Pistol squats) You won't see me jumping from the top of a building. But I like the philosophy behind it. I figure, if Tony Hawk can still skate at his age? I can take up Parkour.

Yeah. I've got so many toys, but she's more the one for small handheld gaming. Unless I'm on a plane or something, I like the bigger systems, and she prefers the smaller ones. So I know if I bought one, she wouldn't let me near it.

Not owning a Wii, I haven't seen what a few of you have mentioned. Could you post a URL to some of the Nintendo images? Copyright infringement is a pet peeve with me...
