Carpet Cleaning

I'm fishing for thoughts because I'm sure there is something I'm either don't know of or just forgot about.

What do you guys think of the carpet cleaning business? I used to work in a family commercial cleaning biz so I have a general idea of it and how to find work. I wonder if the big boys and immigrant workers have taken over like the carpet cleaning biz like the commercial cleaning biz. Either way there is opportunity there and I'm trying to decide if it is something worth taking more consideration.

You know what I'd do? I'd call a couple of the local guys and just ask something like "how soon can you come do a 3 bedroom house for me?" If his answer is any later than "tomorrow", there's probably some work for you to do.

We have a couple of guys going around with the big trucks and it always takes them at least three days to get to me. And because our main guy is pretty well acquainted with my boss, he will sometimes work on Saturday for us. But, with trying to rent out apartments and all, sometimes three days is a LONG time for me to wait. I think we definitely could use a few more in my area.

Something that I have noticed in my area is that businesses that start at carpet cleaners slowly move into other areas. They start advertising fire restoration, and soon they are more of a general contractor than just a carpet cleaner. Cassandra has a real good point, you are going to do a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunites, Threats) for the idea in that area.

I don't consider myself a guru of motivation at all, but I always encourage myself and others that it is almost always better to act, than to try and find the perfect idea. One thing always leads to another.
