PayPal

Hey guys,

I sold an item and used Paypal to collect $45. I already have it deposited into my checking account. I deleted my credit cards and bank account information at the site.

The buyer filed a claim on me because he says he hasn't received the item. It also says he has emailed me multiple times. I haven't received any emails about the matter until this weekend when PayPal emailed me.

PayPal policy is to take his word over mine because I don't have a shipping number. I've heard of bad things about PayPal and so I researched it online. I've read complaints about Paypal taking money out of your checking account if you don't have the funds already in the PayPal account. I sure hope they don't do that.

If I don't refund than I'll have limited to no use of my account anymore.
I like using Ebay and I'm afraid I won't be able to send or receive money by credit card anymore.
Do you guys think I should refund the $45 or is PayPal too strong of a presence on Ebay?

What is to stop you from making a new paypal account when they delete the other one?

I've heard scary things about PayPal, too. So I opened an additional checking account for my paypal transactions, just so they are separate from my household account.

It's really awful what's happening. I'm not sure if you have an ebay business or you just happened to sell something, or somewhere in between. But you'll have to decide how much it's going to hurt you in the long run if you don't pay the $45.

It's possible (though not likely) that the buyer actually didn't get the goods. (What kind of feedback does he have and what kind has he left for others?)

If your seller reputation and paypal access isn't that important to you, then don't worry about it. On the other hand, if this is a business you're trying to protect, you may have to take on in the jaw.

Or, maybe not. If you've got a feedback rating of 8500 already, one little bad feedback isn't going to hurt you that much. But not having paypal may hurt a lot.

You've got $45 in your hand, Zen. Whatcha gonna buy with it? (Tick tock!)

No Shipping number??? How does that happen? Try to research the package you sent. You do have some documentation? Even the location you sent it from and the date/time may be enough to find out what happened to the package. Now that would bother me more than the $45. It is the principle of the thing you gave the package in good faith that it would be delivered in a timely fashion and in good order.

Exactly. its the principle of the thing. I sold something that wasn't worth anything to me and I could return it. I waited to see if there was a problem but I didn't hear anything so I thought everything went smoothly. Only thing PayPal wants is the tracking number and I'd have to dig to actually contact a real person. It was sent in an envelope so there is no tracking number. Wasn't the smartest thing to do but the buyer has the option of opting for a tracking number, insurance, etc.

Well I know a fellow who has a net worth around $10 million he thinks nothing of dropping a few grand on something he wants but will hagle over a few dollars if there is a principle involved. It all comes down to value what is more valuable to you peace of mind, being right, or the $45 some one is trying to steal from you.
Bon Chance!

update:
Paypal ruled against me and I can't use their services until I pay up.
I removed my cc and checking account before the ruling but I'm sure they could find it if they wanted to.
