Life Question

I found this a while back and thought it was a great open ended question for discussion:

“Life is a road, an endless journey in which we go through many storms, over many mountains, into many ditches, etc. And, along this journey we call ‘life’, you come to a fork in the road in the middle of a forest. Going to the RIGHT will lead you to your wildest dreams, everything u wish for will be at your command and u will live this way forever. And, to the LEFT is all fog, you do not know what holds in store for you going down this path, for u cannot foresee the future it holds. Which do you choose and why?”

The path to the right is obviously a mirage, because one can't know everything or live forever. The left is our destiny, at least on earth; this is NOT a choice.

This "choice" to me is asking wether I would: 1- live forever in eternal happiness OR 2- be human. Here's the problem- What makes life beautiful sometimes is knowing that it won't last forever. Scarcity makes time more valuable. That being said, there will ALWAYS be bad times and good times while we are alive. Choosing the first option is to give up being human, which as of right now I'm not ready to do. Hopefully option number one will be available to me after I'm done here on earth.

Ever see the old gameshow Let's Make a Deal?

It's like asking if you want to take the prize you see before you, or if you want to see what's behind curtain number two. Not an easy decision.

When I first read the OP, I imagined being repelled by bright lights, fiestas, streamers, loud music and piles of gold. But I doubt that's what I would see if I looked down a road of MY wildest dreams. Honestly, I don't know what I would see.

I am going to assume you didn't mean "live this way forever" as in you would never die, but "live this way forever" as in have this kind of life as long as you lived. Living forever would just be intollerable!

But if I saw my parents comfortably retired, my children educated and successful, my siblings living without the chaos they sometimes find themselves involved in... And me... I wouldn't turn away.

Cassandra

I am already going down the correct road and whichever fork I choose will become the correct one. I always shoot for the sky and settle for the stars. The road with the dreams is both roads to me so by default there is no fork only wide open smooth highway with the occasional curve to keep me sharp

Great thread Blain.

If i took the right path and had control of anything i wanted.. There would be no surprises.. I could see everyone i wanted, have everyhitng wished for, and so on.

If i didn't know what was to come, but taking the left path, and something good unexpected came to be, it would be an amazing time. I think unexpected greetings and happiness is the greatest thing in the world and if we knew of everything in advance, there would be no happiness or surprises.. none.

Thats just what I think. Glad to hear everyones response.

All the best,

-Spence

"The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

ROBERT KIYOSAKI favourite POEM nice picked....

i have one interesting stroy which my friend last time mailed to me and i still keeping that........
Want to know why u r working so hard?

On the very first day of the world, God created the cow.

He said to the cow:
"Ah Gu (cow), today I have created you!
Your job is to go to the field with the farmer all day long.

You will provide the energy to pull things!
You will also provide milk for people to drink!
You are to work all day under the sun! In return, you will only eat grass.

For that, you will have a life span of 50 years."

Ah Gu objected.
"What.. I work all day in the sun and I get only to eat grass!
On top of that, I have to give my milk away!
This is tough and you want me to live 50 years!

I'll take 20 and you can have the remaining 30 years back!"

God agreed.

On the next day, God created the dog.
He said to the dog.
"Ah Kow (dog), I have created you for a purpose.
You are to sit all day by the door of your master's house!
Should anyone come in, you are to bark at them!
In return, you will eat your master's leftovers.
I'll give you a life span of 20 years."

Ah Kow objected.
" What!
I have to sit by the door all day and will need to bark at people, and what do I get...LEFTOVERS...
This isn't right, I'll take 10 and you can have the remaining 10 years back!"

God agreed again.

On the third day, God created the monkey.
He said to the monkey.
"Lao Kao (monkey), your job is to entertain people.
You will make them laugh, act stupid and make faces!
You will also do somersaults and swing on trees to amaze them.
In return, you will get to eat bananas and peanuts.
For that, I'll give you 20 years to live."

Naturally the monkey objected.
"This is ridiculous,
I gotta make faces and make people laugh let not even come to the part about the trees and somersaults.
Tell you what, I'll give 10 years of my life to thank you for my existence and I'll take 10.
What do you think?"

God agreed again.

On the forth day, God created humans.
God said to the man.
"You are my best piece of work, for that, you will only need to sleep, eat, sleep, play, eat, sleep again and do nothing else. You will get to eat all the best things and play with the best toys.

All you need to do is enjoy all your life. For this kinda of life, I'll give you 20 years."

Just like the rest, the man objected.
"What, all I need to do is relax and enjoy myself and I have only 20 years to live?
Tell you what, you've 30 years back from Ah Gu, 10 years from Ah Kow and another 10 from Lao Kao and you probably don't know what to do with all those lifes. Why not I take them all and I'll have 70 years to live?"

God being such good natured, agreed with a smile.....

AND THAT IS WHY.....
We eat, sleep, play and enjoy for the first 20 years of our lives when we are growing up.
Work like a cow for the next 30 to raise our family.
Sit outside the door and bark at people for the next 10 when we are retired.
And finally, we make faces and perform monkey tricks to entertain our grandchildren for the final 10 years.
