Hi there!

My name is Don and I've been enjoying this forum for a few weeks.

I retired from engineering about 12 yrs. ago but now work at a part-time job helping people find work.

My interest and investment activity has always been in stock trading but I've recently discovered the completely different but facinating world of options. I also discovered that there are quite a few options-knowedgeable people that visit and post at this website. Options are a new challenge and thank you for what you teach me.

Thank you Blain for welcoming me and I really look forward to learning from you guys.

Don

Hi Don welcome to the FIo and thanks for introducing your self. It is nice to here you say that you are enjoying the site and getting something from it. Have you tried Investopedia yet and if so are yu getting anywhere in the options trading there?? I got killed on them when I started and have had a string of bad experiences with them so far. Like you I see a great investing tool and will use them in the future when I have more confidence. At the moment I am using them as hedges in three of the competitions I am in. I am still speculating with them but not so much anymore.

Joe

Welcome Don! I am new here also and relatively new in the investment world. Options are an area I am currently learning about and I am noticing that all advice you get starts out with cautions of various degrees....just as Joe shared.
I want to learn more about them and might work them into my investment strategy at a point...don't know. I would be interested in sharing info as I go though....

Thanks for the welcome fellows.

Joe,

Yes, I have tried trading on Investopedia. I can do very well trading stocks because I've been doing it for quite some time but my option trading still leaves something to be desired. In my defense, I have really been working at understanding the mechanics of placing trades, understanding what the various termanology means and feeling comfortable in those areas. As I see it one of the beautys of options is the low investment to control a large amount of stock. I can invest in 10 different option positions for 1/4 of what I would tie up in regular stock postitions.

My next move is to understand the basis for assigning an option value to a particular underlying stock. That has me stumped at the moment.

I'm slowly progressing. Thanks for your interest and good luck with your trading.

Don

Don,
I have read the tutorials on options trading on investopedia and they were great. Here is a link to another place that provides a bit of free education on the topic: http://www.schaeffersresearch.com/sc...su/?click=menu

Joe,
Just checked out the schaefferresearch website and it's great! I really like how they have it organized. Thanks for the lead. (You've caused me a problem though Joe; now I'll probably be up until the wee hours of the morning reading this new source.)
