Hello from Iraq

Hello all, My name is Michael, I am a Pilot in the army deployed at the moment. I have been able to save up a small amount of money and have always been intrested in trying my hand at day trading. I am new to the tradeing and investing world so I am here to learn. I am currently learing the ropes with investopedia's simulator and hope to learn many things here.

I liked this site because it was made to share knowledge and information from the people who have the experiance to those who seek the knowledge.

One question I have, to start trading through a broker, what is the recommended begining investment with a $20 a trade commision? any feedback or thoughts are welcome.

Again thanks for having me and I enjoy the site.

Mike

If you just want to start getting invested, you may want to look into mutual funds or ETFs (exchange traded funds). They are an inexpensive way to invest your money in equities without having to spend an inordinant amount of time or commissions to do so.

Welcome to FIO Michael. Here is my advice: Go to the simulator and try trading in games that have amounts close to what you wish to invest in the market. I have been in games that only start with $1000.00. The challenge is the commissions are like 10% of your trade. This will give you an idea of how it might work on the street.

Good luck,
Joe.

Mike,

Welcome to the community. I am sure you will become acquainted with everything pretty quick. I like Joe's recommendation of utilizing the simulator to gain some good experience. I would also recommend looking into and reading through the 5 Step Program. It is currently under rennovation, but the basis is still there. Once the new program is completed you will be able to consult with CPM (certified personal mentors) each and every day of the week. Best of all it is completely free, so who is going to turn down live help?

Also, make sure if you can to stop by during our live chat conference this Wednesday at 10:00 PM EST. I am not sure what time zone you are currently in, but we have them each week and they are an excellent way to meet other FIO members and expand your knowledge base.

Again, welcome to the community, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Best of fortunes always,

-Blain

Hi Michael,
Great to have you here at the FIO. I just want to take this time to thank you and all the military for what you do in the name of protecting our country and our freedom. We are so greatful to all of you for what you're doing, and you're always in our prayers.
That's excellent that you want to start investing. Too often we're not truly taught about finances in school, so it's up to us to seek that information elsewhere. Do you feel the same? The FIO is a great resource for this.
How long will you be deployed? Will you be able to join us for the chat tonight at 10:00 pm est or is that not a good time for where you are? We look forward to getting to know you. Take care.
