Betty,
Welcome to the FIO! You are in the right place if you are looking to learn and have some fun along the way. We all try to help each other out, and get to know one another along the way. My name is Mark Zimmer and I am 20. I live near Grand Rapids, Michigan. I saw that you are from Illinois, how far are you from Chicago? Look forward to reading your future posts.

Ah, I see. Well, I am sure you will get back there sooner or later ;-). I have only been to Chicago a hand full of times, have you ever been to GR?

No, never been to GR. I am trying to move South. This is too far North for me. It's freezing.

The simulator competition is a friendly game amongst those in the FIO community through Investopedia.com (another great stock resource), and is a fantastic way to get your feet wet in understanding investing without spending a dime! If you have any questions regarding the competition, please feel free to ask me or any of our other moderators.

Hi Kristy and thanks for the welcome. Right now, in my free time I am looking at investment properties and studying herbalism and trying to switch to environmentally-friendly solutions to everything in my daily life. I registered to sign up for the competition but how do I know what stocks to pick? I am a complete beginner on this.

Very nice! Which areas are you looking at investment properties in? Jeff (part of these boards) has a lot of experience in real estate, I'm sure you two would have a great conversation regarding that.
No worries about being a complete beginner, many FIO members are. This past competition through FIO was my first real competition as well. As far as knowing what stocks to pick, you can definitely find great tips/advice and information from these boards (the stock arena is a good start), motleyfools.com offers good advice, marketwatch.com is another analyst site that will post articles on various companies to show which ones would be beneficial investments, and hmm, have you ever watched "Mad Money" with Jim Cramer? It's definitely different from the usual stock/investing show, very high energy but quite insightful advice. You can get hooked on his show! lol It's on CNBC at 6pm, 9pm, and midnight est. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask us!
