Hello.

Just to briefly introduce myself, I am an educator, an investor, and a trader--not necessarily in that order. I am from West Virginia, where I grew up in a generally rural setting (family farm included), and where I remain despite the relatively stagnant economy of the region. As a writer by training (B.A. in English from Marshall University), my choices were either to move away to find work or hang around here and teach English. I chose the latter, for the love of the homeplace runs strong here.

I won't drag on, but I do plan to retire early, and I like to think that I have a good start toward my goal. I have learned a tremendous amount over the past few years, such that I feel sorry for those who remain under the delusion of mutual funds and annuities...yuck!

Give me the freedom to pick individual stocks, or give me death!

Amen to that brother.

This is a very friendly community. No flame wars, which is hard to find anymore on forums. Join some of the competitions, they're a lot of fun and it gives you a good feel for how you stack up against your fellow traders.

Hi Corby and a hardy welcome to the FIO. Your opinions as already stated regarding stocks vs mutual funds will certainly be entertaining in some of the forums. I feel you are right about the give me stocks thing but if you don't got the education and the inklination to learn about stocks then you got to pay the man for takin care of your cash even when the man knows less than you. If you know what I mean
Joe
