Fred brings out a good point. For day traders, real-time quotes, indeed - quotes to the split second with direct access feed are vital (Actually day traders prefer, real-time 'improved'. You by-pass your broker and see the market as it happens with a direct connection when you have Direct Access)
But quite honestly? For position traders (3 to 5 month timeframe) - 20 minute delayed is more than adequate. Perhaps swing-traders (3 to 10 day timeframe) such as myself need real-time. But there are many brokers such as optionsXpress and Scottrade that give you real-time quotes for free.
