Stocks rose Thursday but closed off of their session highs. They gave back some gains in the last hour after oil prices jumped on reports of a Saudi Arabian pipeline explosion. The Nasdaq gained 0.7%, the S&P 500 0.6% and the Dow Jones industrial average 0.2%.
