Summit Up, Climbing to the Peaks of all 50 States for Charity
My long time good friend Mark Zimmer starting this April is going to be climbing the highest point in all 50 states to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. He has been an avid backpacker and extreme camper for most of his life and with Alzheimer’s running in his family the cause could be no better.
Mark explains the idea best so here it is,
Each time that I am climb one of these peaks, I am carrying with me a set of flags. Each one of the flags will represent a business or organization that has decided to get involved with what I am doing. I will fly each flag on the summit, send the sponsor a picture, and carry the flag on to the next peak. At the end of my climbs, each sponsor will have a picture of their logo flying on the summit of each of the 50 states. We are asking that sponsors make a donation of $20.00 per peak, for a total of $1,000.00, to the Alzheimer’s Association. For more information, please click here.
On his website, summitupusa, Mark features all the sponsors which already include big names such as The North Face and Moosejaw.

While the $1,000 donation is more geared towards businesses, Mark also will be taking pictures with thank you flags at each peak for individuals. Donate $10 and Mark will email you a photo from the top alongside some facts about that particular peak. It allows you to follow the journey start to finish. We have donated $10 and hope you do too. The toughest peak to reach will be in Alaska (see the full list of all peaks) which is Mount McKinley at an elevation of 20,320 feet!
Overall from start to finish Mark plans to peak one state per month allowing him to finish all 50 states in about four years. To learn more or contribute to the cause visit the official website at www.summitupusa.com.
